SMART. EASY. COOL.

HYDROCHILL®

Southwest Greens of Houston is happy to develop and install artificial turf that saves Houston families and businesses money and time —helping you to focus on the things that matter most. By implementing our progressive HydroChill® cooling technology, we’ve combatted summertime heat in a clever and easy way. A basic add-on to the turf’s infill provides an average cooling range of 30-50 degrees and works automatically when hydrated by irrigation, rainfall, and dew.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

EVAPORATIVE COOLING TECHNOLOGY

Perspiration is an organic means of thermoregulation known as evaporative cooling. Evaporation of wetness from the skin’s surface has a cooling effect. Similarly, HydroChill® has shown to cool artificial turf surfaces through the same principle. As the turf surface is warmed by solar radiation, water kept in the HydroChill® turf is let go. Evaporating moisture removes heat, leaving a cooler, more pleasant green for the players.

  • HydroChill® uses moisture to provide a cooling effect. Rainfall, dew, and irrigation will help keep your lawn cool for days, contingent on local weather.
  • HydroChill® can be integrated into almost any Southwest Greens' infilled lawn systems.
  • HydroChill® will not change the structural integrity or warranty of Southwest Greens’ products.
  • HydroChill® is UV-resistant and should be re-treated every two years for the best efficiency.

WHEN IS IT MOST EFFECTIVE?

Environmental temperature outside doesn’t always determine surface temperature. The solar radiation time period, the sun’s angle, cloud cover, wind, and many other elements all contribute to the temperature of the surface.

HydroChill® gives you maximum benefit when the sun is nearest the Earth, as shown in the solar radiation calendar. In the summer season in Houston, the sun sits overhead, causing surfaces to draw more heat, resulting in hotter temperatures. The Earth’s rotation is also responsible for hourly variations in the sun’s light thus making HydroChill® most effective during the hotter part of a clear day when most needed.
